Who owns your domain name?
Let's cover the basics first. The legal owner of a domain name is the person or organization listed as the registrant or owner of the contact with the domain. Domains usually have four contacts: registrant / owner, administrator, technical and billing. It can be the same person or different people.
For most types of domain names, you can check the contacts listed by WHOIS search (keep in mind that for some ccTLDs, this registry will not display this information and will not be displayed if you have a WHOIS privacy service in place, if applicable, so you should had to log in to their account iwantmyname) This means that if you are a contact for a domain registrant, you are the legal owner of the domain. These people are not:

What is WHOIS?
When you register a domain name, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) requires your domain name registrar to submit your personal contact information to the WHOIS database. Once your listing appears in this online WHOIS directory, it is publicly available to anyone who chooses to check domain names using the WHOIS search tool.
